Boone Bridge
Images for this project:
The first pour for this monumental project was March 27th 2007. The total yardage for the bridge is expected to be around 28,000 cu/yds. Completion date is expected to be December of 2008. A typical pour day for the bridge starts with pre-casting every morning alternating 25 and 34 cu/yds respectively. Super plasticizer is used on all pours for precast and drilled shafts. After pre-cast is complete, we average 225 yards of constructual concrete placed with an average truck unloading every 10 minutes. Our earliest pour started at 5:00 am and we have delivered concrete as late as 1:45 am.
Due to the geographic location of the bridge going thru the river valley, American Concrete drivers have had to contend with steep hills, rain, mud, and in June, massive flooding that stopped the project for about a week. . The flooding caused equipment to float down river, washed out haul roads, and made transportation of materials challenging. With everyone working together, they were able to rebuild roads through the flood water and work resumed.
As the project nears completion, our customer, OCCI, has contracted more bridge work with the UP Railroad because of the outstanding job they have done with the Boone Bridge.
