American Concrete is dedicated to continued excellence, leadership and stewardship in protecting the environment, the health and safety of our employees and the members of the communities in which we work and live.
Our commitment is to exceed customer expectations and to fully comply with Federal, State and Local environmental regulations. Within the design and production of product, in collaboration with our customers and suppliers, we strive to eliminate pollution generated at the source, to use renewable materials and to maximize the reclamation and recycling of materials to minimize adverse impact on the environment.
As part of our commitment to implement sustainable business practices, nine American Concrete plants have achieved Green-Star certification by the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association
(NRMCA) in 2010. By the year 2012 America Concrete plans to have all ready mix plants Green-Star certified. Currently American Concrete is the only Green-Star certified concrete ready-mix provider in the state of Iowa.
The NRMCA Green-Star Program has been designed by the Environmental Task Group of the Operations, Environmental and Safety Committee
(NRMCA-OES) to support the efforts of the ready mixed concrete industry towards environmental excellence.
Benefits:
- Favored Status
- Improved Efficiently
- Community Goodwill
- Reduction of Environmental Lliability and Risk
The NRMCA Green-Star Program serves as a useful mechanism to recognize those within the industry who have achieved or are actively working towards
environmental excellence and/or a demonstrable reduction of environmental
impacts, following the principals of sustainability. It will also provide a formal
opportunity for the recognition of those companies through a rigorous,
structured certification process capable of withstanding third-party oversight.

LEED Approved Products
LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is an internationally-recognized green building certification system. Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in March 2000, LEED provides building owners and operators with a framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions.

LEED promotes sustainable building and development practices through a suite of rating systems that recognize projects that implement strategies for better environmental and health performance. The LEED rating systems are developed through an open, consensus-based process le
d by LEED committees, diverse groups of volunteers representing a cross-section of the building and construction industry. Key elements of the process include a balanced and transparent committee structure, technical advisory groups that ensure scientific consistency and rigor, opportunities for stakeholder comment and review, member ballot of new rating systems, and fair and open appeals.
LEED is flexible enough to apply to all building types – commercial as well as residential. It works throughout the building lifecycle – design and construction, operations and maintenance, tenant fitout, and significant retrofit. And LEED for Neighborhood Development extends the benefits of LEED beyond the building footprint into the neighborhood it serves.
